Corfu, Rome and Ibiza are all proving popular with Brits this year, with the first receiving 100 per cent more interest than at the start of the year.
The recent Travelnomics UK Quarterly Industry Insight: Q2 April – June 2009 survey from CheapFlights.co.uk shows that timeshare holidays are often taken in these locations, with Sharron Livingston, editor at thetravelmagazine.net, saying this comes as no surprise.
“Corfu offers a sleep-easy style in ancient, lush environs, Rome’s winning combination of religious sites like the Vatican City, its ancient Roman ruins, stylish shops and gastronomy hits the spot for culture vultures,” she said.
The expert added that Greece, Italy and Spain have always been very popular with British holidaymakers.
While Corfu topped the poll for locations timeshare holidaymakers are likely to pick, Athens, Bodrum, Palma and Malta also came in the top ten, as well as some UK destinations.
Rome saw 54 per cent more interest in the second quarter of the year, compared to the first, while Ibiza’s popularity rose by 40 per cent.

Dr. Keith W. Trowbridge—the president of Executive Quest Inc.—has announced the results of the latest annual salary survey of the timeshare/ vacation ownership / fractional industry.

The 2009 figures were obtained from participants that originated from more than 20,000 contacts from Executive Quest’s newsletter subscriptions. A full copy of the study can be purchased from http://www.execq.com

Compared to last year, industry numbers have been affected by the recession. There were decreases in tour flow and marketing and the industry is suffering from a rough year. According to Howard Nusbaum, president of ARDA, there will be a forecasted 8% decrease in sales at the end of the year.

With many timeshare companies cutting back on marketing and tour flow costs, positions in these areas had suffered the most decreases in the past month. Regional marketing managers and marketing VPs had a 10% decrease in compensation, while sales and marketing directors had a 20% reduction as a group.

Administrative positions had a steady income. On the other hand, CEOs, presidents, and owners had a 33% decrease compared to last year.

The American Resort Development Association (ARDA) launched a new website last year dedicated to helping people “vacation better”. Appropriately named VacationBetter.org, this site reminds us all that we desperately need to vacation better, and that means vacationing with more frequency, more regularity, and under more relaxing circumstances.

As Howard Nusbaum, ARDA president and CEO says, “Unfortunately vacation is one of the first things people give up when times get tough economically, and with that goes some of the best quality time you can get with your family.” He continues by reminding us, “Tough times are when people need (to) connect to their families even more, and it can be done very economically.”

In a recent ARDA survey of website visitors at VacationBetter.org, nearly half said they felt that quality time with their family was lacking. The feedback led ARDA to launch “The Family Stimulus Plan,” as a way to help people easily plan successful vacations.

ARDA reminds us that timeshares make vacation planning especially convenient. When you own timeshare, you will be far less likely to eliminate or postpone your vacation—after all, your vacation accommodations are either paid for (or are part of a payment plan) and probably already scheduled. Since so many timeshare resorts offer lots of onsite entertainment and activities, you can even enjoy a fabulous vacation without ever leaving the property. In fact, the convenience of kitchens and eat-in dining (available in so many timeshare units and timeshare condos) means that meals during your timeshare vacation don’t have to cost a bit more than you spend on groceries at home.

As the vacation specialists at ARDA and www.vacationbetter.org remind us, “It’s a proven fact that people who spend time away reap health benefits far beyond that week or two of vacation. Vacations are not a luxury, but a necessity for good health and well-being.”
