Do you enjoy travelling alone, or do you prefer to travel in a group?
I love to travel and have traveled alone, as family, as extended family, and in a group. All forms excite me and brings its own experiences and memories. Any chance to travel, with or without company, I will grab!

What are your thoughts on a nice vacation with a large extended family?
We try to do an extended family trip whenever we can, though the logistics can get mind-boggling. Certainly need to do more of these – we have done only a couple of those in the last few years.

Any advice for young professionals who can’t find the time for a vacation?
Plan, plan and plan. Time and money are constraints, but there is a vacation out there for every constraint. While there is nothing like a quick and impromptu trip to a local hill station for a weekend break, planning in advance helps you get the best out of every vacation.

Here’s an update on “International Timeshare Appreciation Day”

2020 will mark the 8th celebration of this very special day that I created in an attempt to show all that is great about timeshare around the world.  I’ve been writing about timeshares for nearly 20 years and decided that the industry, the people within the industry and the owners themselves deserved a day to celebrate and share all the good news about timeshare.

There’s a dedicated Facebook page as well as a Twitter hashtag, #YES2TIMESHARE, to make it simple to share good stories with everyone. To date, we’ve had resorts, exchange companies and thousands of owners join in.

How can stakeholders work together to project a positive, brighter image?

I’ve learned in the 7 years that I’ve been promoting International Timeshare Appreciation Day to associations, exchange companies, resorts and members is that those who aren’t willing to come together and discuss both the wonderful aspects as well as the challenges facing timeshare ownership probably have something to hide. In this day and age of consumers looking for companies and industries that operate in their best interests and with transparency, it’s vital for those in the timeshare industry to embrace that. International Timeshare Appreciation Day is a platform for the positives that sometimes get overlooked. It’s a win/win for both sides.

David Gillbanks, publisher of the The “Good Tourism” BlogWhat is The “Good Tourism” Blog all about? (What moved, or inspired you to start it?)

There are all sorts of buzz-words and buzz-phrases being bandied about the chattering class of the tourism industry: sustainability, responsibility, sustainable tourism, responsible travel, accessibility, accessible tourism, tourism impact, community-based tourism, inclusive growth, inclusive tourism, regenerative tourism, ecotourism, nature-based tourism. (There could be many more!)
The “Good Tourism” Blog is about all of that and more. Whatever good tourism means to you, there will likely be some content there for you. And if there isn’t, you are invited to submit a “Good Tourism” insight, or request someone to write a relevant piece for us.
